Commonly referred to as the ‘Dome’, the new Geelong Library & Heritage Centre is an outstanding example of modern architecture providing an ideal environment for forward thinking innovation and learning.  Reflecting the geometry of the external facade, the level 5 multi-purpose function room ceiling was detailed with a three dimensional hexagonal shaped feature, creating an inspiring and engaging meeting place.

Tasked with the construction of the unique ceiling, the builder sought an easy time-saving alternative. SBS Group was approached and as a result, redesigned the installation method and created a pre-finished lightweight aluminium system, removing challenges associated with on site construction including difficult site access, quality control, extensive labour and coordination of other trades.

SBS Group systematically shop detailed the individual frame panels to ensure all critical levels and points were reached. The panels were then manufactured off site, powder coated black and delivered to site, with framing designed to enable direct fix of the cladding material. All panels were clearly labelled and marked to streamline the installation, with SBS working together with up to four other trades to coordinate the construction process.
