Pacific Werribee has been labelled as the ‘new face of retail’; an expansion that brought together the best of retail architecture and construction methods to create a unique destination for the western suburbs of Melbourne.

Operating within a live retail environment, the builder was challenged but rewarded with their ability to coordinate and manage the complex and multi-faceted construction stages. SBS Group were involved in numerous stages of the project, pre-fabricating lightweight steel bulkhead framing, aluminium curtain wall boxes and external feature screen frames.

Bringing the feature bulkheads to reality with a traditional on site construction method was not only going to be a labour intensive process, significant time would have also added to the project schedule.

These challenges were overcome by using SBS Smart Frame alternatives. Using lightweight steel, bulkhead frames were fabricated to accurate specifications off site. The frames were delivered and then fixed off in sections, achieving a faster and easier installation system for the plastering contractor.

Lightweight, economical and maintenance-free, aluminium is becoming more of a commonly used material on construction sites in replacement of heavy structural steel. SBS Group approached the structural steel contractor with an alternative off site solution for the external car park boxes.

The SBS Ultra Frame solution reduced the proposed supporting structure, allowing for perforated metal to fix directly to the frame structure without top hats. The boxes were manufactured in a factory environment, delivered and then lifted in as complete box units for a streamlined installation process.

Complex aluminium external features were also made easy using a two part clad system – frames were designed, pre-fabricated, powder coated and delivered to site as ready to install sections.
